The defeat of a Chinese contestant in a world slapping event, which left him with a broken cheekbone, has triggered a heated discussion on mainland social media.

Power Slap is a global competition which features two opponents taking turns slapping each other in the face. It was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 31.

광대뼈 골절로 5바늘 꿰매야

지난달 31일 사우디아라비아 리야드에서 열린 이번 '파워 슬랩' 대회에서는 두 참가자가 번갈아 가며 서로의 뺨을 때리며 승부를 겨뤘다.

7일(현지시각) 홍콩 사우스차이나모닝포스트(SCMP)에 따르면, 1라운드에서 중국의 조홍강은 카자흐스탄의 무하마드 아만타예프에게 맞아 이마에서 피가 흐르고 오른쪽 눈이 크게 부어올랐다.

3라운드에서 그는 의식을 잃었고, 의료진은 광대뼈 골절로 5바늘을 꿰매야 한다고 진단했다.

​

조홍강은 자신의 소셜미디어(SNS)에 "방금 눈 주위를 꿰맸다. 영상 검사 결과 뇌진탕은 없는 것으로 나타났다"며 "응원해 주셔서 감사하다"고 전했다.

​

조홍강은 이번 대회에 참가한 최초의 중국인으로, 국가급 무형문화재로 간주하는 전통 무술 '기씨 통베이권술'의 9대째 전승자다.
