Cuba: Protesters attack ruling party's office amid blackouts

Long, daily blackouts ignited by a US oil blockade have pushed Cuban residents to the edge. On Friday, Havana acknowledged talks with the US to diffuse the situation.

Protesters in central Cuba attacked early Saturday an office of the ruling Communist Party, amid growing discontent over hourslong blackouts fueled by a US oil blockade.

Angry protesters vandalized the Communist Party office in the city of Moron, some 460 kilometers (roughly 285 miles) east of the capital, Havana, as a peaceful rally against power cuts and food shortages turned violent.

미국 석유 봉쇄로 인한 장시간 정전에 대한 불만이 고조되는 가운데, 쿠바 중부에서 시위대가 토요일 새벽 집권 공산당 사무실을 공격했습니다 .

수도 하바나에서 동쪽으로 약 460km 떨어진 모론 시에서 전력 부족과 식량난에 항의하는 평화로운 시위가 폭력 사태로 변질되면서, 분노한 시위대가 공산당 사무실을 파손했습니다.

소셜 미디어에 올라온 영상에는 사람들이 공산당 사무실에 돌을 던지고 약탈하며 문서, 컴퓨터, 가구를 꺼내 거리에서 불태우는 모습이 담겨 있었습니다.

"지역 당국과의 협의 후 평화롭게 시작된 일이 공산당 시 위원회 본부에 대한 기물 파손으로 변질됐다"고 국영 신문 인바소르(Invasor) 가 보도했다.
