World's first energy island 'taking shape' off Belgium
The world's first renewable energy island is taking shape off the coast of Belgium with major structural works now complete for the time being.
In mid-September, the last caisson for 2025 was installed at Princess Elisabeth Island, requiring the help of more than 300 workers and 15 specialised vessels, contractor DEME has said on behalf of the developer, Elia Group.
The caissons, massive concrete structures weighing up to 22,000 tons, form the watertight outer walls of the future island, providing structural integrity and stability.

9월 중순, 2025년 마지막 케이슨이 프린세스 엘리자베스 섬에 설치되었으며, 300명 이상의 근로자와 15척의 특수 선박의 도움이 필요했다고 계약업체 DEME가 개발업체인 Elia Group을 대신하여 밝혔습니다. 최대
22,000톤의 무게를 가진 거대한 콘크리트 구조물인 케이슨은 미래 섬의 수밀 외벽을 형성하여 구조적 무결성과 안정성을 제공합니다.
DEME는 올해의 해상 캠페인이 이제 끝났고 나머지 케이슨은 내년에 설치될 예정이라고 덧붙였습니다.
완공되면 이 섬은 해상 풍력 발전소를 연결하고 벨기에 전력망에 대한 국제 상호 연결 장치의 에너지 허브 역할을 할 수도 있습니다.
Elia Transmission Belgium이 개발한 이 프로젝트는 DEME와 Jan De Nul이 포함된 컨소시엄인 TM Edison이 건설하고 있습니다.
