With two laps remaining, Choi Min-jeong took first place and Kim Gil-li second, setting the stage for a head-to-head race between the two. With no skaters from other countries ahead, they poured all their energy into a sprint for the gold medal. Choi Min-jeong was on the inner lane, while Kim Gil-li skated the outer lane. With one-and-a-half laps left, the order flipped. Kim Gil-li overtook on the inside, gained momentum, and surged ahead, crossing the finish line first. The gold medal was hers.

김길리와 최민정(이상 성남시청)은 이날 이탈리아 밀라노의 아이스스케이팅 아레나에서 열린 쇼트트랙 여자 1,500ｍ 결승에서 각각 1위(2분32초076)와 2위(2분32초450)로 결승선을 통과해 금·은메달을 차지했다.
