August saw solid gains for stock markets in the U.S. and Europe — but September is historically the worst month for stocks.

On a sector basis, there are clear winners and losers so far this year in Europe, with banks outperforming and media stocks taking a hit.

EU unemployment, inflation and GDP data are all due next week.
